Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra Brings NVIDIA RTX Spark Power to Windows

Microsoft has officially opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra, introducing a new high-performance Surface machine built around NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform. The laptop is aimed at developers, creators and AI users who need more computing power directly on their PC instead of depending on the cloud for every task.

At the heart of the laptop is NVIDIA’s RTX Spark Superchip, which combines a Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores and a Grace CPU with up to 20 cores. It can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory, allowing the CPU and GPU to share the same memory pool. Microsoft says the system can deliver up to one petaflop of AI performance and handle models larger than 120 billion parameters locally.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra also focuses on display and everyday usability. It features a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen with peak HDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The laptop is less than 18mm thick and weighs under 4.5 pounds, while a redesigned cooling system is intended to maintain performance during demanding workloads.

Microsoft has also paid attention to connectivity. The laptop includes USB-C, HDMI, USB-A, an SD card reader and a headphone jack. A new magnetic USB-C charging system lets the charging cable detach easily while leaving the port usable for other devices.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra for Local AI
Local AI is one of the main reasons behind the new hardware. Developers can run larger models, test AI applications and use tools such as GitHub Copilot directly on the machine. The same RTX Spark hardware can also handle graphics-heavy work and supported games with technologies such as DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex.

Microsoft has also introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a compact desktop designed for AI developers and technical teams. It offers up to 128GB of unified memory and one petaflop of AI compute, with development tools preconfigured.
The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 and will begin shipping on October 16. The RTX Spark Dev Box costs $5,999 and is expected to ship in November in the US.
